Central Office for Assistive Services and Technology (COAST)
Department of Labor
MANILA currently supports the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Central
Office for Assistive Services and Technology (COAST) Office in providing
accommodations for DOL employees and beneficiaries with disabilities in
order to improve access to the DOL physical, technical and recreational
environments. Established in 1997 as part of the Office of the Assistant
Secretary of Administration and Management/Human Resource Center, COAST
provides needs assessments, sign language interpreting services, alternate
format production services, and accommodations, including assistive technology,
to assist DOL compliance with accessibility laws.
MANILA’s staff provides support for strategic planning and project
management, disability/accessibility policy and program research, onsite
needs assessments and accommodation services delivery, and marketing
and training services. In addition, our staff also manages the partnership
between DOL and the Department of Defense Computer/Electronic Accommodations
Program (CAP). MANILA also provides programming and maintenance services
for the COAST Services Tracking Database.
MANILA’s experience and knowledge in the disability services field
enables COAST to manage over 1,400 annual accommodations to increase
accessibility and opportunities for DOL employees with disabilities.
