Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) primary
mission is to improve truck and bus safety on the nation’s highways.
As a subcontractor, MANILA works with FMCSA to support this mission by
establishing panels of medical experts to review the current cardiac standard
and guidelines and make recommendations to the FMCSA for amending and/or
updating the requirements and guidelines for the CMV drivers. In addition,
MANILA updates the 1988 Federal Highway Administration’s conference
report on cardiac conditions and commercial drivers.
MANILA manages the panels’ processes and their mission to provide
recommendations in identifying potential risk factors that might be associated
with driving impairment. MANILA also organizes discussions on how identified
risk factors may affect driving ability and what treatment technology can
be used to control risk factors or medical conditions.
